Board of Directors

Welcome to Family Business Association Saskatoon!

FBAS is a local, not-for-profit organization established in 1999, formerly the Saskatoon Association of Family Enterprise (SAFE).

Our mandate is to promote the well-being, understanding and success of families in business in our great city.

Why are we so passionate about family business? A research paper by the Conference Board of Canada measured the impact that family enterprises have both economically and socially. This report found that family enterprises account for approximately 50% of private-sector gross domestic product and nearly 7 million jobs across Canada.

Whether you are a member of a family business, or an advisor to family businesses, we are a community that can help.

We do so in various ways.  We provide networking and educational opportunities as well as support for both family businesses and advisors through our Personal Advisory Circles.  We pride ourselves on providing a non-solicitation environment for our members to get to know one another and share our various experiences – both successes and challenges.

As a second generation business owner myself, I have seen first hand some of the challenges that come along with owning and working in a family business.  If you think of the challenges of transitioning a business to new ownership, passing it on at all is like playing chess; passing it on to a family member is like 3-D chess.

Given the importance of family business to our society and our economy, and the challenges inherent in owning and operating and passing on a family business, if you are involved in a family business as a member or an advisor, we encourage you to get involved in our association.

Join our mailing list so that you can stay abreast of upcoming events and opportunities to network with other like-minded individuals.  Come out to one of our events to meet other family businesses and advisors.  We would love to have you as part of our “business family!”

Respectfully yours,

Tyler Case
